- Q306: 2991 transactions

September highlights:
- US$ 726 million transacted via IMAREX-NOS in September 2006, up 55% on the same period last year – third highest nominal value in a month ever.
- 927 transactions concluded in total, up 20%
- Strong tanker performance with 721 trades and 14.5 million tonnes traded
- NEW record for bunker fuel oil: 90 trades and 700 000 tonnes traded – up 60% compared to last month.
- Freight options remain strong - 28 contracts traded at US$19.2 million.
- 5 new trading and clearing members – now 145 in total.

Trading and membership statistics – September 2006
A total of 927 trades were done via IMAREX-NOS during September 2006, up 20% on the same period in 2005. The nominal value of all trades done via IMAREX-NOS in September was USD 726 million, an increase of 55% compared to September 2005. The volumes traded were 23 483 lots (1 lot= 1 000 tonnes or 1 day of time charter) up 5% compared to the same period last year.
Tanker derivatives:
IMAREX-NOS handled a total of 721 tanker futures transactions during September, a 5% increase on September 2005.
A total of 14 505 lots in tanker futures (14.5 million tonnes) were traded via IMAREX-NOS, down 12.6% compared to the 16 080 lots traded in the same period last year. The nominal value of tanker transactions at IMAREX-NOS was USD 278.7 million, down 20% from USD 350.2 million in the same period last year.
In addition to the futures volumes traded in September, a total of 28 Imarex freight options accounted for 792 lots with a nominal trade value of USD 19.2 million.
Dry bulk derivatives:
Total dry bulk volumes cleared at NOS and traded at IMAREX-NOS was 7 485 lots (where 1 lot is 1 day of time charter or 1000 metric tonnes of freight). The nominal value of contracts traded was US$224.5 million.
A total of 88 dry bulk derivatives transactions in September compares to 165 in August and 79 in the same period last year.
Bunker fuel oil derivatives:
The total number of fuel oil derivative transactions in September was 90, up 76% from 51 in August.
A total of 700 000 tonnes were traded in September, up 60% compared to 436 000 tonnes in August. The total nominal value of bunker fuel oil contracts traded at IMAREX-NOS in September rose 46% to USD 203.7 million, up from USD 138.9 million in August.
