IMAREX trading and membership statistics May 2006

A total of 769 trades were done via Imarex during May 2006, up 102% on the same period in 2005. The nominal value of all trades done via Imarex in May was USD 454 million, an increase of 114% compared to May 2005. The volumes traded were 19 900 lots (1 lot= 1 000 tonnes or 1 day of time charter) up 53% compared to the same period last year.

 

Tanker derivatives: 

 

Imarex handled a total of 545 tanker derivative transactions during May. This is a 54% increase on May 2005 and 4% above April.

 

A total of 7 740 lots (7.7 million tonnes) were traded via Imarex, down 13% compared to the 8 890 lots traded in the same period last year. The nominal value of tanker transactions at Imarex was USD 141.3 million, up 18% from USD 119.5 in the same period last year.

 

Dry bulk derivatives:

 

The total number of dry bulk transactions was 174, a new record and the highest number of trades done since the previous record was set in January 2006.

 

The number of dry bulk contracts traded during May 2006 was 11 200. This is equivalent to 7 000 days of time charter plus 4.2 million tonnes of capesize dry bulk freight, and an increase of 171% on the same period last year. 

 

The nominal transaction value of dry bulk derivatives traded at Imarex in March was USD 162.8 million up 36% compared to May 2005.

 

Bunker fuel oil derivatives: 

 

The total number of fuel oil derivative transactions in May was 34, down from 37 in April.

 

A total of 406 000 tonnes were traded compared to 196 850 tonnes in April. The total nominal value of bunker fuel oil contracts traded at Imarex in May was USD 138.6 million up from USD 64 million in April.
