IMAREX trading and membership statistics - July 2006

July highlights:
- US$ 556 million transacted on IMAREX in July 2006, up 136% on July 2005
- 841 transactions concluded, up 122% on July 2005
- Tanker transactions up 104% - nominal values up 72%, on July 2005
- Dry bulk transactions up 149% - nominal values up 119%, on July 2005
- 4 new trading and clearing members

"IMAREX performed exceptionally well in July. We posted the highest nominal value of trades since October 2004 - which was widely recognised as the peak of the 2004 bull market in shipping. The number of transactions, volumes traded and nominal values were all substantially up across the key market sectors traded at IMAREX," says Tom Even Mortensen, Managing Director.

Trading and membership statistics – July 2006
A total of 841 trades were done via IMAREX during July 2006, up 122% on the same period in 2005. The nominal value of all trades done via IMAREX in July was USD 556 million, an increase of 136% compared to July 2005. The volumes traded were 24 384 lots (1 lot= 1 000 tonnes or 1 day of time charter) up 37% compared to the same period last year.
Tanker derivatives:
Including tanker freight options, IMAREX handled a total of 689 tanker derivative transactions during July, a 104% increase on July 2005.
A total of 14 500 lots (14.5 million tonnes) were traded via IMAREX, up 22.6% compared to the 11 826 lots traded in the same period last year. The nominal value of tanker transactions at IMAREX was USD 249 million, up 72% from USD 144.5 in the same period last year and up 67% compared to June this year.
Of the volumes traded in July, tanker freight options accounted for 495 lots with a nominal trade value of USD 6.2 million.
Dry bulk derivatives:
The total number of dry bulk transactions concluded via IMAREX and cleared at NOS was 102, continuing the positive trend in transaction growth at IMAREX. Transactions grew 149% compared to July 2005.
The number of dry bulk contracts traded during July 2006 was 10 038. This is an increase of 67% on the same period last year and an 8% increase on June. The nominal transaction value of dry bulk derivatives traded at IMAREX in July was
USD 193.9 million up 119% compared to July 2005 and up 19% compared to June.
Bunker fuel oil derivatives:
The total number of fuel oil derivative transactions in July was 50, the same as June.
A total of 341 000 tonnes were traded compared to 339 000 tonnes in June. The total nominal value of bunker fuel oil contracts traded at IMAREX in July was USD 113.4 million up from USD 101.5 million in June.
