Fish Pool has more than 130 registered trading members, representing all parts of the value chain. The exchange is located in Bergen, Norway, and is offering clearing services trough NOS Clearing ASA. Fish Pool has been in operation since 2006.
The first product Fish Pool is offering is financial salmon contracts. The market for Atlantic Salmon is a global commodity market and is experiencing a tremendous growth rate. The salmon prices are highly volatile and represent a continuous risk for all parties involved. The lack of predictability makes it difficult for both buyers and sellers to plan investments and operational activities in a longer time perspective.
All financial salmon derivative contracts are settled financially against the Fish Pool IndexTM with no physical delivery. The trading at Fish Pool is executed at the Trayport Global Vision trading system (same screen as Imarex).
Fish Pool passed the 1 Bill NOK mark in February 2008 for underlying value of traded contracts. The liquidity at the market place is fast growing, attracting an increasing number of financial players to join the market.
Fish Pool ASA is licenced by the Norwegian Ministry of Finance to operate as an Authorized Marketplace for commodity derivates with fish and seafood as underlying products. An Authorized Marketplace has the same set of rules as an Exchange and is surveilled by The Financial Supervisory Authority of Norway (Kredittilsynet).
This surveillance secures the trading members at Fish Pool ASA:
